OUR CURRICULUM IS CHRIST-CENTRED. At St Richard’s, we are committed to living out our school mission, which is that ‘we know, love and follow Christ by looking after each other and trying our best every day’. Our curriculum is designed to ensure that this happens. Christ is at the centre of all we do and because we believe that we are made in His image and likeness, the staff of St Richard’s feel responsible for ensuring that all our pupils reach their fullest potential through access to outstanding teaching and learning and an outstanding curriculum.

OUR CURRICULUM IS FLEXIBLE AND RESPONSIVE. We respond and adapt in order to meet the needs of our pupils…always in the pursuit of excellence.

OUR CURRICULUM IS RICH, BALANCED AND THRIVING. We are committed to high standards in core skills and our results demonstrate this. Our Maths, Reading, Writing and GPS results are consistently above national averages. Our curriculum is broad and our pupils apply a wide range of skills in all subjects and gain knowledge and understanding and a love of learning in all areas. We are fully compliant with the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum.

OUR CURRICULUM IS HIGHLY ENGAGING. Pupils are passionate about what they learn at St Richard’s and learning is really exciting as well as purposeful. Our curriculum is enriched and intensified through lots of visits from experts in their field. Currently, these take place on a regular basis in English (Drama), Science, Computing, History, Art and Design, Music, French, Design Technology and PE.

OUR CURRICULUM IS HIGHLY ENRICHING AND IS INTENSIFIED through visits to places of interest. We have three mini-buses and our drivers take pupils on educational visits designed to enhance their skills, knowledge and understanding in a range of subjects.

OUR CURRICULUM IS AWARD-WINNING. Senior leaders and subject leaders have worked hard in order to ensure that we gain accreditation for our curriculum from a range of awarding bodies. Currently we hold accreditation and external validation for History, Geography, Art, Computing and PE. We were highly commended for the quality of our rich curriculum in the Parliamentary Review in 2018.

OUR CURRICULUM IS PROUDLY EMBEDDED LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY. We love to learn about our local area and Manchester, past and present  At St Richard’s, there are more than 33 different languages spoken in the homes of our pupils and approximately 45% of our pupils have English as an additional language. Our curriculum therefore embraces diversity, acknowledging and building on the vibrant multi-cultural intake of our school. We respect and learn from each other’s backgrounds, cultures, faiths and unique perspectives.

OUR CURRICULUM IS CUTTING EDGE IN ITS USE OF TECHNOLOGY. We are generously resourced and our computers and hardware help to support stimulating learning in a number of subjects. We have received the BECTA award and ICT e-safety mark.

OUR CURRICULUM SEEKS TO OVERCOME DISADVANTAGE. We are situated in an urban landscape without much access to green space. A significant number of our pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium but this has never been allowed to be a limiting factor. Our curriculum is designed to encourage all our pupils to realise their dreams and to know that anything is possible with determination, hard work and education.
